Two More in School

Michaela started school last Thursday. She has a new male teacher, Mr. Larsen, who she loves, because they've already had a push-up contest and a race. That is more way important than what they are learning, right? She is in fifth grade and it's funny how you when you have kids in school, you remember back to when you were that age. Fifth grade was a fun year for me and I was a lot like Michaela at that age.
This is a big year for Reagen. She started kindergarten today. I took the day off so that I could enjoy the whole kindergarten experience. She had her check up last week and she weighs 48 lbs. and is 46.2" tall. That's in the 97th percentile on her height. She may end up being the basketball player in the family.
She rode the bus home from school and there was a little chaos due to it being the first day of school so it took her almost a full hour to get home. Mike and I probably looked pretty foolish standing at the bus stop alone for a half an hour with the video camera and the regular camera waiting for her. The long ride home didn't dampen her spirits, but she was a little bugged that I made her wear levi's when it was so hot. She colored today and played on the playground and really liked Mrs. Dahle.
Because it was the first day of school, she wanted her hair done a way that she's never had it. This took some thought, but we went with the zig zag braid.

Little Dam = Big Fun

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Mindie and her two girls came to visit and we all went up to little dam and fished. No fish were caught, but lots of crawdads. Reagen even let a little baby crawdad crawl up her arm. Dallon went to the other side of the dam to fish where there weren't a lot of little girls screaming. I took a picture of him, but it's so far away, he's just a little speck.

Me and Mindy have been friends for over 25 years. We were pretty much together every day from 4th grade through 9th grade, doing a lot of stupid things together and having lots of fun. I had to move to Grantsville when I was 15, but we still visited each other often and we still talk at least a couple times a month. She cracks me up with her brutal honesty. She's like a sister to me, Jan and Amy.

Thankful Thursday

I'm following my good friend, Ade's, lead and posting a few things I'm thankful for.

1. For the Olympics. We love to watch them as a family and root for the U.S.  Even Reagen has gotten into it. When she has to go to bed before everyone else, she hollers, don't watch it without me.

2. That it's Thursday night and no work tomorrow. It's been a crazy week and the thought of sleeping in is just grand.

3. To have school start again and be able to get on a somewhat normal schedule.

Men's sand volleyball is starting so that's it .

Jr. High Anxiety?

I have a kid in jr. high. That's crazy! I remember stupid things I did in jr. high and I'm so glad that Dallon is a good kid. I asked him the night before school started if he was nervous. He asked, "what is there to be nervous about?" Um...oh nothing, nothing at all. It will be great. I decided not to tell him about the reoccurring dream (nightmare) I still have about jr. high. The one where I'm wandering empty hallways and every one's in class except me because I've lost my schedule, I can't find my locker, and then when I do, I don't know the combo to the lock...and then I realize I'm naked. I wake up all nervous and thankful that those days are long gone.

I remember not being able to sleep the night before the first day of school and then getting up and wearing new school clothes that were so dang hot because they were for Fall weather. Dallon's so laid back, that he wouldn't even care if he had new clothes.

He enjoyed his first day and didn't even stress out about not knowing where he stuck his schedule after school. I have a feeling I'll be having some bad dreams tonight.

My life is a zoo.

Or at least if feels like it lately. A couple of weeks ago, we actually went to the zoo. We hadn't been in a couple of years and the kids loved it. We practically had to drag them out of there...I guess they felt at home...hee hee. Dal, my future photographer, took over the camera and got lots of pictures. The kid's favorite was the macaw that talked. He kept saying, "look at me", "hello", and "what ya doing?". Now my kids want a bird. I can imagine the things it would say if it lived with us..."pick up your shoes", "wash your hands", "pee IN the toilet", "leave your sister alone", "turn off the lights". I would no longer be needed.
They also loved the monkeys. They are so funny to watch because they really do resemble people.  This little guy in the back hurried and ate his lettuce and then snatched his buddies lettuce and ran off and ate it.

This is pretty much how I feel tonight.

Woo Hoo...

This was such a happy day for me! Reagen asked me last week if she could have her ears pierced. After I picked my jaw up off of the floor, I told her absolutely. In my house, I have a son and two daughters, but I might as well have two sons and one daughter. Bless Michaela's little heart, but she is SUCH a tomboy. Not that there's anything wrong with that because I was the same way, but I was worried Reagen would follow in her footsteps and I would not experience having any daughters at all! Every day she asked and I promised her that we'd do it on Friday. We went school shopping that day and decided we'd get them pierced right before we went home in case it turned into a traumatic experience. I was still half expecting her to change her mind, especially when we went in and picked the earrings out and they sat her on a little stool. Her eyes were really big, but she said she still wanted to do it. They pierced both ears at the same time and Reagen didn't even flinch. I held my breath for a minute because I was sure the tears were just about to come flowing out, but nothing...not even one little tear. Mike was so proud of

her, he bought her a king size bag of M&M's. He got us a Snickers for being such good supporters. When we got home that night, she went into the bathroom every five minutes to look at them in the mirror. What a great day!

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

It seems like I'm always playing catch-up. Just wanted to get a few more pics from Reag's birthday posted. These are from Sunday when we had family over for cake and ice cream.

She was a little embarrassed when we sang to her.

Her birthday guitar and some more summer hair going on.
